Dwayne Johnson’s “Rampage” Reviews

Image result for rampage review

Rampage is a quintessential Johnson project. Based on a video game with no story or characters to speak of, from a time before many of his fans were born, it sounds like a dreadful basis for a movie. And it sort of is, but it’s also sort of a lot of fun.”

“At what point is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson no longer portraying characters at all, and just fully playing variations of himself? We may have reached this critical The Rock breaking point with Rampage, a video game adaptation nobody asked for, but which somehow mostly works as a big, fun, and really dumb action movie.”

“Dwayne Johnson finally gets a star to match his size if not charisma in the sometimes gloriously ludicrous “Rampage,” a movie based on a hit arcade game that was literally just larger-than-life monsters bashing buildings. If you’re thinking, “Wow, that seems like a flimsy premise from which to adapt a feature film,” you’re not entirely wrong. ”

“Rampage” is an afterthought that barely qualifies as a distraction for those waiting for the summer blockbuster season to kick off in earnest. To be fair, it’s not that it’s bad per se, just mind-numbingly mediocre, and a bit of a letdown after seeing star Dwayne Johnson mine a similar vein like a pro in “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” just a few months ago. Hell, how can the Rock swagger through cheesefests like the “Fast & Furious” movies, “San Andreas,” and “Baywatch” yet seem totally adrift here?”
