Before delving into some review details about this movie, I will give a general overview of what the movie is about in case you’ve not watched the movie. Alien Covenant is about the bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, which members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

The whole concept of Alien Covenant movie is nice, the cinematography is excellent, the soundtrack is great and the cast members are outstanding as well. However, there are some little important details that eventually made the movie some sort of turn-off for me. Firstly, how Walter came into existence isn’t clear at all. Yes, he told David that he was created after him when he turned out to be more of human, and that he is more advance than David, but this so vague and hard to follow. Secondly, the acclaimed unknown planet, which they landed, was obvious to be earth in terms of the ecosystem and the point was to portray some sort of alien planet. The director need to study the solar system properly before the next sequel in order to know the characteristics of each planet. Even sedges were growing in the planet, with a hug forest ecosystem, which is not so outside earth based on scientific investigations.

Thirdly, why did David release the viral chemical that killed everyone in the planet first place? What happened to his own creator? How did Dr. Shy Walters came into his own picture. What was his mission in manipulating different organisms’ DNA to create alien embryo? Also, it turned out that David was the one who came on board with them in the end of the movie and not Walter. Fine, they are both identical, but Walter had just one hand, there should be a scene, which shows whether David killed Walters and intentionally cut one of his hand so they could think he is Walters. All these details were not properly addressed in the movie, which brought me to the conclusion that it’s not a super great movie, just a normal okay movie. Vin Diesel’s Riddick and Halo Night Fall is far interesting than Alien Covenant.

Score: 6/10
